Sierra Leone, once infamous for its civil war—partially funded by so-called “Blood Diamonds”—has now enjoyed 23 years of peace and democracy. As one of the world’s major diamond-producing nations, the country continues to diversify its economy and drive sustainable development.
From May 4 to May 9, 2025, an international delegation of diamond dealers, jewelers, and industry leaders will embark on an immersive journey, gaining firsthand exposure to artisanal diamond mining, economic development initiatives, and the realities of the diamond supply chain.
Key Highlights of the Mission:
- Visits to artisanal digger sites to engage directly with miners and understand the challenges they face.
- Tour of the Peace Diamond Village, demonstrating how investment in healthcare, education, and agriculture transforms local communities.
- Exploration of land reclamation projects and agricultural initiatives aimed at promoting economic self-sufficiency.
- Three days in Kono District, the heart of Sierra Leone’s diamond industry.
- Meetings in Freetown with business leaders and government representatives to foster industry collaboration and support ethical trade.
Delegates will navigate rugged terrain, witnessing firsthand the hidden heart of the diamond industry—its artisanal miners. This experience will offer unique insights into the challenges and opportunities within the artisanal sector, encouraging sustainable partnerships that uplift miners and their families.

Past mission participants have described the trip as eye-opening.
