On February 26, Miami International Airport conducted its full-scale triennial emergency preparedness exercise, in partnership with the Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue Department and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The exercise fulfills a Federal Aviation Administration requirement for airports to conduct a simulated airfield emergency scenario every three years, to test and evaluate the airport’s emergency plan and its ability to respond to a major incident.

In addition to participation by multiple local and federal safety and security agencies, more than 100 student volunteers from Miami Springs Senior High School acted as passengers evacuating an aircraft because of a security incident onboard.
