Statement from Rhett Buttle ahead of Small Business Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. November 22, 2022.- Saturday, November 26 is Small Business Saturday, a day to recognize, celebrate and shop at the nearly 32 million small businesses in communities across the country.

Ahead of Small Business Saturday, Rhett Buttle, founder and principal of Public Private Strategies, released the following statement:

“The nearly 32 million American small businesses are the backbone of our communities and of our economy. Over 58 million people – or nearly half of all working Americans – are employed by small businesses. And small businesses do so much more than create jobs and deliver goods and services, they bring communities together, deliver critical innovations, and contribute to community identity and vibrancy.

“This Small Business Saturday is a chance to recognize, celebrate, and support small businesses in communities across the country, especially as many small businesses continue to grapple with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. History shows that small businesses will continue to be crucial to America’s economic bounce back from the pandemic. In the wake of the Great Recession, small businesses created nearly two-thirds of the new jobs.

“Despite the challenges of the past few years, research from Reimagine Main Street shows that most small businesses are optimistic about the future, and most report that business is either stable or improving. Shopping small on Small Business Saturday is one of the best ways to ensure MLK Boulevards, Cesar Chavez Ways, Chinatowns, Main Streets, and the millions of Americans who benefit from small business growth are able to recover and thrive.

“We applaud our friends and partners at Women Impact Public Policy (WIPP) for serving as the coalition lead for Small Business Saturday activities, spreading the word to #ShopSmall on #SmallBizSat. Find a small business participating in the efforts here.”
