Governor Attends 2019 NGA Annual Conference in Salt Lake City and Meets with Governors Across the Country to Discuss Investing in Infrastructure, Strengthening States’ Rights at a Time of Federal Hyper-Partisanship and Inaction
Governor Cuomo: «Rather than lead, Washington is caught in an endless blame game. Governors don’t have that option. We have to get things done. And when Washington doesn’t do its job, our job gets more difficult because we have to do our job, and theirs. That’s why the NGA is more important than ever.»
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo was today unanimously voted to serve as Vice Chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) during the NGA Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Governor also met with governors from across the country to discuss investing in infrastructure and strengthening the role of states’ rights.
«Too many in Washington would rather have an issue to run on than a solution that helps people. Rather than lead, Washington is caught in an endless blame game,» Governor Cuomo said. «Governors don’t have that option. We have to get things done. And when Washington doesn’t do its job, our job gets more difficult because we have to do our job, and theirs. That’s why the NGA is more important than ever. It’s where we share our best practices and where we can take the best of what we’ve done, then press the federal government to supply the money and the muscle to expand state solutions to every corner of the country. I am honored to serve as the Vice Chair of the NGA, and I look forward to working with Governors from across the country on issues that truly matter.»
Earlier today, Governor Cuomo met with Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland, Governor J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Governor Gavin Newsom of California, Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico and Terry O’Sullivan General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America. Additionally, Governor Cuomo addressed the conference in a Governor’s only plenary session and participated in a meeting on the importance of rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure before returning to New York.
