Miami, Coral Gables Mayors to Showcase Successful Transit Collaboration

Cities working together to meet transportation needs of area residents

(Miami, FL – May 2, 2019) – Today, May 2, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Coral Gables Mayor Raúl Valdés-Fauli will come together to showcase their cities’ successful transit collaboration, which is helping local residents to easily traverse two of Miami-Dade County’s most-populous cities and make quick transfers to County transit lines. The cities’ two free trolley systems – popular with residents and visitors – are connected by a common transfer point adjacent to the Douglas Road Metrorail station.

In 2017 alone, the most recent year for which statistics are available, the City of Miami trolley system provided free, user-friendly transportation to more than 5 million riders. For its part, the free Coral Gables Trolley has been in operation since 2004 and is successfully transporting 1.2 million riders per year. Connecting these two successful systems is further boosting connectivity and ridership.
