Governor Cuomo: «In New York, we will never stop fighting until we reach full gender equality and economic justice for all.»
Also Reiterates Call to Expand Equal Pay Requirement for «All Substantially Similar» Work
«In New York, we are proud to be leading the way in the fight for equality, building on a legacy that began at Seneca Falls a century ago, and this year we have continued our aggressive progress by passing key components of our bold 2019 Women’s Justice Agenda. But our fight is far from over, especially at a time when we have an Administration in Washington hostile to women’s rights.
«A critical pillar of our 2019 Women’s agenda is the push for pay equity. At 88 cents on the dollar, New York has one of the lowest gaps in the nation, but that 12 cent gap is still way too high. I have already taken executive action to prohibit State Entities from evaluating prospective candidates based on prior wage history.
«Today, on Equal Pay Day, I once again call for the passage of a salary history ban to close the gender wage gap. And to close any loopholes employers try to use to pay women less, the Legislature must also expand the requirement that equal pay be provided for all substantially similar work. In New York, we will never stop fighting until we reach full gender equality and economic justice for all.»
