City of Miami receives $25,000 grant for sustainability and resilience projects

The City of Miami Office of Resilience & Sustainability was awarded a $25,000 grant from The Funders’ Network as part of its Partners For Places program to develop a City of Miami-specific resilience strategy that builds off the regional resilience framework under the City’s partnership in the 100 Resilient Cities – Resilient Greater Miami & the Beaches initiative. In addition, The Miami Foundation is providing a $25,000 match for this grant; and the City of Miami will provide a $3,000 contribution.

«This grant gives the City an opportunity to strengthen its resilience strategy in innovative and sustainable ways so we can take further action to protect our residents,» said City Manager Emilio Gonzalez. «The Funders’ Network and The Miami Foundation are helping to empower our community to plan for a better future.»

This project will prioritize alignment of the strategy with the City’s strategic plan and land-use policies. It will have a strong focus on resilience planning at the neighborhood level and engaging disadvantaged and low-income communities.

Grant funds will be utilized to retain a part-time staff member in the Office of Resilience and Sustainability to coordinate the overall strategy development process, facilitate eight Neighborhood Resilience Workshops, and hire a community engagement consultant specializing in engagement of local disadvantaged communities to assist project partners in engagement strategies and workshop content.
