Garcia and Baez File Legislation to Help Small Businesses Thrive Through the Veterans Employment Small Business Grant Program

Tallahassee, FL., December 2016.- Senator Rene Garcia (R-Hialeah) and Representative Daisy Baez (D-Coral Gables) have filed legislation to establish the Veterans Employment Small Business Grant Program, which offers a tax credit to small businesses for hiring veterans.

«This legislation would serve as a win for both Florida’s small businesses and its veterans. If we are going to call ourselves the most veteran-friendly state in the nation, we must give our armed servicemen and women every opportunity to succeed in their post-service life and in their careers.» said Senator Garcia.

«As a veteran, I could not be more proud of collaborating with Senator Rene Garcia on this bill,» stated Representative Daisy Baez. «Our honorable men and women of the military give everything to serve this nation and deserve our support and commitment. Additionally, this legislation helps small businesses and the Florida economy. It is bipartisan efforts such as this that move our state forward!»

Senate Bill 152 provides for the establishment of the Veterans Employment Small Business Grant Program, outlines the criteria to qualify for these one-time only grants, and details the accountability measures to ensure all contractual conditions are met. Small businesses are eligible to receive a one-time $3,000 grant or a one-time $5,000 grant for hiring a disabled veteran through the Veterans Employment Small Business Grant Program. The House Bill has been filed and is awaiting a number.
