Miami International Airport has served 688,000 passengers more than last year, representing an increase of 3% and a total of 23.4 million travelers who passed through MIA in this first half of the year. The increase is partly due to the launch of the American Airlines airline of the direct flight between Cordoba and Miami, as well as four international passenger airlines that entered the Miami market with new routes: Norwegian launched the nonstop daily service between MIA and the London Gatwick airport; Moroccan national airline Royal Air Maroc launched the first Miami-Casablanca route, the only nonstop service that connects Florida with Africa; LOT Polish Airlines started the first airport route from Poland with service from Warsaw; and the French airline Corsair began to make weekly flights from Paris Orly airport to MIA. The increase in international travelers was 516,000, which implied a jump of 4.7% and a total of 11.4 million people. National traffic reached 172,000, with a 1.4% increase to 12 million passengers, according to recently published traffic statistics. These new routes continue to make the destination an attractive business and leisure option for travelers throughout the year.
